Alanna is a practicing Family Physician in Calgary, working primarily with under-served populations. She completed Family Medicine Residency in various locations in Northern Ontario and Medical School in Calgary. Before going into medicine, Alanna completed a Masters degree in Industrial / Organizational Psychology in San Diego and worked as a Management Consultant in the US and Canada. Alanna’s consulting work focused on Organization Effectiveness, Leading Organization Change and Transformation and helping to develop effective organizational culture, leaders and teams. As time passed, she felt the need to explore new challenges and applied to medical school, a little later in life than most.
Alanna was born and raised in Calgary, which is in Treaty 7 territory — the territory of the Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakoda First Nations and Metis Nation #3. Alanna’s paternal grandparents were nêhiyaw (Plains Cree) and Denesųłiné from Frog Lake and Cold Lake in Treaty 6 Territory. Her maternal grandmother was a descendent of the Red River Métis. Her settler ancestors were French and Scottish and Irish.
In addition to her consulting career, she’s had numerous other side projects along the way including completing sommelier training, and projects in the wine and music industry. Alanna believes in the importance of community building and advocacy, and loves outdoor adventures with friends and Joni, her well-travelled Leonberger.
